Our story

HR and employment law can feel like a minefield. When you’re busy running a small business, the last thing you want to be worrying about is those often challenging HR issues that take up too much of your time.

That’s where Hill HR can help.

HOW WE BEGAN

It’s our passion for all things HR and employment law that drives us.

Small businesses can feel, and be, exposed. They have no big HR team to guide them, or massive amounts of financial resources to fight challenges.

Our mission started out (and remains) to support small businesses and be their HR team.

To save you the hassle, stress and sleepless nights of dealing with your HR matters on your own.

To give you back the time you need to focus on growing your business.

Claire Hill

Owner & HR Consultant

Claire’s an employment law geek with a passion for supporting business owners and managers with their employment and people matters. She understands how to partner with a business to ensure their HR supports their operations and culture and achieves the required outcomes.

She’s straight talking and offers business-focused, pragmatic advice and support.

Claire is a keen horse lover away from the business and spends time riding. Having lived in Italy for many years, she loves to practice the language whenever she can. 

Whether you’re just starting out on the road to employing or already have a team and want to invest in HR expertise, Claire’s energy and enthusiasm will help drive your business forward.

Laura Nind

HR Consultant

Laura looks after our retained clients and ad-hoc work. 

She’s a vastly experienced general HR practitioner, having worked for some large manufacturing companies.

As an HR business partner, she has a flair for understanding the day-to-day impacts people can have on a business, its team and its productivity. 

She’s excellent at dealing with complex and sensitive situations such as grievance and disciplinary, performance, and absence management cases.

Laura is a qualified Mental Health First Aider at Work.

When not at work, Laura is a mum to two girls and enjoys family life and travelling – she’s always planning the next trip. 

She’s also a governor of a nursery school in Evesham.

Tina Smith

HR Consultant

Tina’s HR experience lies in retail and manufacturing companies and the public sector.

As an HR generalist, she has delivered large-scale restructures, implemented health and wellbeing initiatives, designed ‘user-friendly’ HR policies and guidance documents, and provided clear and practical advice on a range of complex issues.

Tina understands the importance of finding solutions to HR issues to ensure businesses have an adequate workforce to support their success.

With more time now her daughter is grown up, she is learning Spanish and is teaching herself to play the piano. She loves being outdoors and is a keen runner and walker.

What to expect when you work with us

When you make an initial enquiry about using our services, we’ll contact you to find out more about your business and discuss your HR requirements. This may be via phone or video, or we can meet you if you’re local to us.

It’s essential that we understand your business and, in particular, your HR requirements. We’ll ask you lots of questions and expect you to ask us lots in return.

If we can help and we’re the right fit for each other, we’ll send you a proposal with some information about our business, the options available to work together, and the costs for the services and support you require. 

We’re pleased to have an initial free discussion with you by telephone or to respond to an initial email enquiry. However, if you need our support and further advice, and if your matter is complex or we need to look at documents related to your issue, this would be subject to our ad-hoc or retained services. 

Once we have your agreement to proceed, we’ll team you up with a dedicated HR partner who best meets your needs in terms of experience and knowledge (especially in your industry) and capacity. They will be on hand to help and support you, and you will have their direct contact details – no helpline, call centre or repeating your query.

Options for our HR services include: -

Rather than ‘shoehorn’ you into a package that doesn’t suit your business or your need, we offer blended and flexible services so you can chose what you need when you need it.

For example, you may chose our ‘peace of mind’ packages (HR Advisory & Admin and HR Outsourced) but then dip in and out of our other packages as and when (such as HR projects or HR Specialist). 

This offers you flexibility, choice and value for money.

  • Unlimited HR advisory support for short time-based queries that can be dealt with via phone, email or video.
  • HR admin support, such as drafting letters and straight forward (non-complex) documentation and providing template forms

  • Discount on additional services

As an optional extra, subscription for our cloud based HR system, Breathe HR. This software ensures your employee records (such as sickness and holiday) are stored and monitored efficiently.

HR Outsourced

The perfect solution if you need a bit more hands-on support.

It includes everything in the HR Advisory & Admin package, plus a set number of hours each month for hands-on outsourced HR support, either at your premises or remotely.

We can be your outsourced HR Manager for a fraction of the price of hiring in-house.

As an optional extra, subscription for our cloud based HR system, Breathe HR. This software ensures your employee records (such as sickness and holiday) are stored and monitored efficiently.

Our Other Packages

Pay as you go (ad hoc) HR Support

Our pay-as-you-go service provides available, affordable access to HR support via phone, email or on-site. 

It’s perfect for businesses that don’t need ongoing retained HR support but still require expert HR guidance now and again.

Charged by the hour.

HR Project Work / Fixed Fee

Our fixed fee service is perfect for one-off projects, such as drafting employment contracts, creating a staff handbook or producing HR policies and procedures.

Where an accurate assessment can be scoped for a piece of work, we can work together for an agreed fixed fee.

HR Specialist

As an HR Specialist we ensure everything is being done correctly and we bring independence to each process. We support through HR processes such as:

  • Investigations
  • Disciplinaries
  • Grievances
  • Redundancies/Change Management projects
  • TUPE
  • Performance or Ill health capability
